Postcards From the Kids

Whiskey

August 2006 - "...The ride home went fine - Whiskey slept on my lap most of the ride with a little licking of my nose and fingers in between. She wasn’t too thrilled about our home at first but seemed to adjust very well within a half hour. She slept fairly well in her pen next to our bed - every once in a while she would let out a nice bark for herself (I think just to let us know that she was here) but other than that she has been great. We went for a walk around our neighborhood to introduce her to all of my family. 5 houses in a row are all of my family and fell in love with her as much as we did. My children are ecstatic that she is finally here and have enjoyed playing with her all morning while I was at work..."

October 2006 - "We are enjoying Whiskey so much - she has brought such joy to our family. It’s been such a long time since there has been a dog in our home and we can’t imagine how we ever lived without one. She is growing leaps and bounds and is just a wonderful puppy."

"Yesterday we introduced her to a quail - she did great. As soon as she picked up the scent - she went wild and it was just amazing to watch her with the bird. She is definitely going to be a great bird dog..."

December 2006 - "...Hi Loretta, Wanted to finally send you a picture of Whiskey. She is doing very well and growing so fast. She has been out in the field almost a dozen times so far and has done absolutely wonderful flushing quail and pheasants. Doesn't like to retrieve them yet but that will come in time. She has brought so much joy into our house and we don't know how we went this long without a dog in our house. We are still waiting to get our first snow storm so she can experience the white stuff - it's been such a mild fall and winter here that only a few flurries have fallen. We are anxious to see how she reacts to a few inches of snow. Will send more updated pictures soon..."

Winston

Winston

November 2006 - "I just wanted to drop you a line to let you know that puppy #5, now known as Winston, is doing great. The weather has started to cool and his training has been a treat. So much of what he does is natural, only requiring some polishing of his retrieving. He is such a treat in the field and in our home. I'd like to discuss reserving a female in 2007. I've attached a few photos. Thanks again for such a great pup."

Yukon

October 2005 - "I just wanted to send photos of Yukon on his 1st birthday. He is the son of Sam & Abbey. Yukon is doing very well; Kurt is very excited to get him out hunting at the end of the month. I know that a couple of the photos are dark, but I think that you will see an unmistakable resemblance of Sam. Kurt and I very pleased with our new addition; he is the light of our lives."

Zeke

Zeke

April 2003 - "Just a quick note to let you know Zeke is doing great! He and Sparky are quickly becoming good friends--playing together quite a bit! Just got my new camera so thought I would send out the first pic we got. This was yesterday out to camp. He met his first woodcock....tried to sneak up to it but when the bird flew and chirped he ran back and hid behind Hoot--it was pretty funny! He got his nerve back up and went out sniffing around after that!..."

November 2004 - "...He is such a great dog and an important member of our family! I have attached a couple pics we took this weekend with his brother, Sparky! Thanks again!"

Zeke

October 2003 - "Hi!! I just wanted to tell you that I really love my new home. I almost wag my tail off when Terry puts his shoes on in the morning. He takes me for some really nice walks. I'm learning to listen better and I try to pay close attention to what I'm supposed to do. Terry and Judy take me lots of places. I've been up north with Terry and Jason, and I've been to the bank. Did you know they give treats at the bank - what a cool place. I also met grandma (and I shook her hand)."
Zeke

"Guess what. I have been camping two times already - Once in Indiana Dunes State Park and once in Governor Dodge State Park. I LOVE camping. There are so many things to explore, and you should just see all the dogs that go camping! I taught my whole family what deer ticks are this weekend, because I found the most. I think Judy liked picking them off, because she just kept on until they were all done crawling:) I also met two more members of the family - Jackie who thinks I'm cute, and Josh who thinks I will be a good hunter. After a long weekend of camping, I sure was tired. I could have slept anywhere, but my favorite place is the bench that I share with Spike. He lets me share his bench sometimes. Speaking of Spike, he is learning to listen better too because he wants my treats."
Zeke

"I'm growing fast as you can see by my pictures. I don't have a very long attention span, so I have to go now. Enjoy the pictures."

"Rye, Rye,
Zeke"

December 2003 - "I'm sure you get these types of notes all the time and here is another."

"We cannot begin to tell you how much fun we are having with Zeke. He is a quick learner, and likes to please. You must be proud to tell others about the dogs you raise."
Zeke

"Zeke has basically figured out the house training and has really settled in to his routine. I must say that he will do almost anything for a treat (important word in his vocabulary)."

"He visited both grandmas houses for Thanksgiving and was well behaved. He slept through the Packer game, but then who can blame him! As you can tell by the photos, he still loves the camera."
Zeke

April 2005 - "It's been a while but I thought it was a good time to show you the NCAA basketball fan in our house. Zeke is doing absolutely great. He's a very good hunter, but I think, more importantly, he's a great family dog. His newest favorite trick is frisbee retrieving and he can really get some tremendous jumps in..."
Zeke

"...Since our kids are all grown up, Zeke has become our new topic of conversation and attention. He understands a pretty big vocabulary, and would play ALL DAY if we had the time and energy. One thing that we think is unusual is that he has never ever chewed up anything that wasn't his toy. Is this something common for this type of dog? Anyway, we couldn't love him more."

"Thanks for pairing us with the perfect dog!"

October 2005 - "It's been awhile since we touched base with you. Zeke is an excellent dog. His energy level is very high when he is outside, but he is a gentle dog in the house(usually). Terry is taking Zeke on his very first trip out to South Dakota in 2 weeks to go pheasant hunting. We are sure he will do a great job. We think Zeke is a great hunting dog, but an even better companion..."

Ziggi

Ziggi

August 2005 - "Ziggi is doing GREAT! We absolutely love her... She gets many walks a day and when it isn’t so hot out she goes to the Dog Park. We did kennel her once for a night recently, but I don’t think it went that well - since she keeps such a clean kennel, I think she held her bathroom duties the whole time. So, we are investigating more interactive kennels for her."
Ziggi

"She sits next to me while I am working from home and eagerly waits on the couch in the evening after the kids go to bed so she can snuggle in with Scott and I. Sometimes it gets too late for her and she jumps off the couch and gets in her kennel and settles in for the night. She is such a good girl!"

"She doesn’t even blink an eye on our walks as the neighborhood dogs bark at her, or when they are shooting off fireworks. She and our cat, Maddie, have done pretty good. The cat is very vocal and slaps Ziggi on the nose when she gets too close. If the cat would just let Ziggi lick her, I think it would be better, but that is not going to happen! They exist well, better than expected..."
Ziggi

January 2006 - "Who would have known a dog could love snow as much as Ziggi? She goes absolutely crazy in the snow, it is so much fun to play with her. Scott has taken her bird hunting and she has done a great job. In the neighborhood she is known as the bird dog, since she jumped up and caught a bird in mid air at the park one day and it was witnessed by a family and kids playing! We utilize all the commands you taught her and she seems to like having a "job" to do. When we travel we take her to a kennel that has Springers, so she can play. She gets a wonderful report card and they always welcome her back. It has only been 7 months since we got Ziggi, but we can't imagine life here without her! Thank you for raising such a great girl, we love her so much!"

April 2006 - "Hello! We just celebrated our 1 year anniversary with Ziggi and we are all so happy together. Every person that comes in contact with her says she is a sweetheart. She and I are happy to have the better weather, so we can do our long early morning walks together. She still gets jealous when the cat comes near me, but the two of them do pretty well with each other."

"Scott's sister, husband and 4 kids (ages 7,9,11,14) just adore Ziggi. They are in the process of building a house right now, and when it is complete are interested in a Springer Spaniel. When their time is right, they will be giving you a call. I think they would prefer a "started" dog, but we will see."
