Postcards From the Kids

Maggie

January 2002 - "...we are doing fabulous w/Maggie on board! She has outgrown the sleepless nights and cuddles in along side of Gary (her favorite). She still continues to give Beau and especially Jasper a run for their money daily. She has little fear and teases and taunts him endlessly. She is an absolutely stunningly beautiful dog! (coming from a wee bit of prejudice of course! :)) I will have to send a pic from the office since my disk drive has been down for months now. We have taken her cross county skiing and she loves the snow like the other dogs do. She stays in close range which is good.

As you can see she is so very special. I watch my husband's heart melt when she greets him and tugs at his heart each and every day since we brought her home..."

Maggie

January 2006 - "We want to thank you again for Libby. We made it home successfully. Libby traveled very well with only a few little barks as we were leaving your driveway. Jake must have become used to the puppy on the way home as it seemed old news to him when we arrived in Minnesota. He pays her some attention, gives her a nudge occasionally and generally seems to be completely okay witht he idea. Morgan is on cloud nine. Libby is such a sweetheart. We are fortunate that things worked out this way. It was meant to be. We hope you don't mind, we may be changing her name to Maggie. Morgan likes to call her Maggie so we may make that change. She is getting a lot of love and could not be a more beautiful puppy. Thanks again and again. We will keep in touch to let you know how things are going."

February 2007 - "First of all Maggie (Libby) is the biggest sweetheart we could ever have imagined. I can't possibly come up with an adequate description of how gentle and loving she is. Maggie will allow us to hold her in our arms or laps indefinately. She just curls up and lays back for as long as we have time to sit. I have never met a more laid back dog, let alone a springer spaniel. Maggie is very special to our family and no doubt, the love of our 8 year old daughter's life. You may find this strange, and so do we at times, as loving and gentle Maggie is with us, she has control of 50 pound Jake (and she did from about 12 weeks old). When playing in the yard, Maggie will collect the dummies or tennis balls and make a small pile. Jake (and other dogs) stand no chance what-so-ever of claiming any of them for their own. She will protect her stash like a badger protecting it's den. It is quite comical. If Jake ever does manage to get a hold of the "toy", he doesn't end up with it long as Maggie will grasp on and be literally dragged through the yard until Jake gives in. In the house and in the yard, it is clear that 25 pound Maggie is the alpha. Jake is a great sport about it. Speaking of Jake. He is still going strong and is a beautiful and well-disciplined guy. We love him to death."

"We are so grateful that you allowed us to have her. She is a gift to our family and we always say, "Can you imagine not having her?" It is so nice seeing Jake and her play and fight, and she is such a special friend to our daughter. I want you to also know that it is doubtful there has ever been a more pampered pup in all the world. We love her and will keep doing so as long as we are fortunate to have her. I know I didn't talk much about Jake but what can I say. He is the one and only Jake and he is my brush busting boy. He is the most active and hardy hunting companion I have every had. Thanks again for two special dogs. Good luck with your next litters. I will keep you posted about future events."

Mel & Friend

Mel

July 2006 - "Here's Rosie and Corey's girl #6 with her goldendoodle sister. Paul named our little springer Mel. I had other, much cuter names picked out, but he thinks she looks like Mel. She's such a good puppy and Stella (the doodle) loves her! They play like crazy and we also make sure each of them get plenty of individual time with us. We had our vet visit this morning. Mel weighs 10.5 lbs and is doing great... Thanks again - she's such a big part of the family already."
Mel

November 2006 - "Mel (Rosie and Corey's litter, May '06) went out on her first pheasant hunt last week and in between chasing leaves - her favorite fall activity - she flushed up a couple of birds for Paul. Seriously, she has amazing hunting instincts and exceeded Paul's expectations of a 6 month old. Mel hasn't had a lot of serious training; she's just a natural in the field. She's also been a great dog in the house, loves her sister the golden doodle, gets along well with the neighborhood dogs and her friends at puppy school, is eager to please and is a cutie to boot!"
Mel & Friend

"Paul wants you to know about Mel's first retrieve. It was in a swampy area. She came out of that slue, carried and held the bird back to where he was standing and she sat, still holding it, until he took the bird from her. He says it was like watching your kid hit a home run the first time at bat."

"Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!"

December 2006 - "Doesn't Mel have a beautiful face? Anyway - Paul and I would like to wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas and a Happy, Healthy New Year! Your dogs have brought so much joy to so many families."

December 2007 - "We just wanted to let you know how Mel is doing. Even though she's only a year and a half old she's proving to be a great gun dog for Paul and his buddies. They're loving her intensity and enthusiasm in the field. She's also been lots of fun to take to agility and obedience classes. She gets along well with other dogs, behaves in the house, and is very affectionate. She's a really good girl .... most of the time. Thank you for the care that you take with your springer spaniel breeding program. Mel is a delight."

Millie

Millie

August 2006 - "Just a quick note: Millie is growing to be a family member, Katie the older dog is finally accepting her as a playmate. It took awhile but she is playing with Millie. As long as Millie gets some exercise she then lets us get something done around the house. We freeze peanut butter where the bone marrow was in a bone and she goes nuts for it. Last week introduced her to our hunting shack. Took walk with Katie the older ESS. Millie came out of some brush with a feather in her mouth. Katie kicked up two woodcock and Millie was very excited to what was going on. Millie has very good endurance when we go for walks for a pup her size."

"Say Hi to Steve!!Thanks Again for Everything..."

December 2006 - "...We have done allot more hunting with her than I really had anticipated for a spring puppy. She works so naturally in the field and cover. As I mentioned in the X-mas note we are working on harnessing some of the hunting energy to keep her in close. Katie sets a good example for her when we give a command to keep in close. It is amazing at what she can discover out in the woods, (both dead and alive)."

October 2003 - "Everything is going well. She's adjusting well and having a great time smelling everything in our house and we love her to pieces. She hasn't barked or whimpered once and is even happy with the kids being so excited by her..."

"Our cat's not so happy about life right now but she's young and will adjust!"

Murphy

October 2006 - "We thought you might enjoy seeing some pictures of the puppy. Murphy is growing and learning from his big sister and brother..."
Murphy

"Murphy is learning some basic commands, is starting to retrieve, and has a real interest in the birds in the yard. Most of his day is spent chasing his big sister around the house and yard and playing. They wear each other down throughout the day and sleep well at night..."
