Hazel

October 2006 - "Just wanted to let you know how Hazel is doing. She just turned 1 yr. old the other day, and so far she's been all one could hope for. She's a happy, friendly, energetic little pup, and the other dogs seem to love her. She's been a nice addition to our crew, and quickly becoming my favorite hunting partner. So far this year she has hunted grouse woodcock and pheasant and handles them all quite well. She got her first Rooster the other day, and first lesson in running down a cripple. She trailed it nearly 100 yds., right on it's heels through the switchgrass, and made a nice retrieve. A good job for a young pup, it was beautiful to watch. One of the photos I sent is of the fugitive bird and his captor."

"We'll be leaving for Iowa in a few days, and for sure she will get a lot of experience on wild birds. I'm looking forward to watching her work and learn, that's half the fun right."

Wanted to tell you how pleased I am with her and send a few pictures. Thanks again..."

Jake

Jake

November 2002 - "...We got three birds two weekends ago in the Nemadji State Forest and were skunked last weekend, but Jake works very hard and stays real close. Very happy. The second bird I got I had given up on and Jake found him about 50 yards from where I thought he went down. He is a good boy..."

"...Jake has been a great dog. He sure is active and needs to be run each night. He is great with our daughter Morgan and is sure protective of her. When they are playing in the yard he usaully keeps between her and anyone else who may be in the area. I mentioned previously that we have been out a couple of times grouse hunting and were somewhat successful. I can't wait to get Jake down to my father's farm. There a lot of cedar trees, plenty of abandoned fields, and some apple orchards that I know are holding birds right now..."

December 2003 - "...He is a fabulous dog and we love him very much. Morgan, our 5 year old daughter, and Jake are the best of friends and it is very special to watch how Jake interacts with her. He is very gentle, tolerant, and also very protective, which surprises me about him. He definitely keeps a watchful eye on her when she is playing outside and is never far from her side."

"We have been able to do some hunting this year, not as much as last however. Jake is healing from a freak injury he recieved in November. He was playing with a tennis ball on my parent's deck and somehow became tangled in a deck chair and pulled his toe out of his toenail. He had to have minor surgery to remove the nail and we have had him on the mend since. He has actually gained weight too because I have not been able to run him each night. However, in 2 weeks we are going for our last grouse hunt of the season in Wisconsin. I plan to get him a boot for his foot, which is almost 100% anyway."

"In short, Jake is a super dog. He has a pleasant personality, is very entertaining, and is also the hardest working dog I have ever met. There is nothing he would not do for me. He is also very beautiful. I plan to send you some more digtial pictures of him when I get the chance. We keep an eye on your web page and enjoy the pictures of new puppies. I am trying to talk my father into a new springer pup as his hunting companion is now 12 years old. Hopefully I can persuade him to get in touch with you. He, and everyone else for that matter, think Jake is a great dog. Thanks for the updates on your page. Merry Christmas!"
Jake

October 2005 - "It has been a long time since I have e-mailed about Jake. Jake will be four years old in January. He is a fabulous dog and a great hunter. He has boundless energy and minds better than any dog I have had. He sure is a pleaser. The best part is that he is a very important part of our family. Our seven year old daughter, Morgan, loves him completely and they are the best of pals. We have been out to the farm in Wisconsin several times this fall and will be out again this weekend. Of course you know the grouse count is low but it is still fun to try. There have been no health concerns with Jake. Occasionally he gets into barbed wire and cuts himself on thorns. I have him wear a neoprene jacket while hunting some cover as he is such a forceful brush-buster and he nicks his chest up so badly."

"Jake weighs about 50 pounds and is very trim and muscular. When we look at the web-site and see Jake Sr. it is remarkable how much they look alike. He is one of the most beautiful Springers I have seen and it is a privelage to have him. It won't be long and I will be checking in with you to see about adding a hunting companion for Jake. We have moved to a larger house in a more northern region of the Twin Cities. We have a large yard with a creek running through the back and a small grove of trees running the length of our neighborhood. Jake has the run of this area and keeps all the rabbits and squirrels out of it. The neighbors love Jake too and always ask me where his "electronic collar" is because he will not leave the yard for pile of dog bones (or Kongs). He is just that way. He knows where our property line is and is very disciplined..."

Jake

December 2005 - "Well, little Jake seems to be doing fine. He is eating like there is no tomorrow when I put the food out and his housebreaking works fine if we can keep ahead of his little bladder and gut."
Jake

"The family loves him and thinks he is the cutest of the pack. Had some worries about the family cat Smoky as she was terrified of this new little bundle of energy. I was so afriad she'd scratch his eyes I took her to get claws trimmed so they'd be dull. The next day they were playing together chasing each other around, she about 5 times faster and quicker, he fascinated with her twitching busy tail."

"Second night I got a little tough on pup as he just howled and howled, even after I was sure he had been out. A firm "Stop that noise", with a stern Scruff of the neck shake did it as the last two nights he has slept in his crate from 11pm to 7am without interruption, it seems to be fine as we quit watering him after supper."
Jake

"So all in all he seems adjusting very well and we to him. Thanks so much for all your work and effort to find and breed truly fine dogs that will fit into the hearts and homes of those who want those special creatures."
Jake

"May you and your famiy have a Blessed and Merry Christmas time this weekend."

November 2007 - "Jake is great. He has a warm responsive personality and probabaly the best family dog we have ever had. He weighs about 40 pounds and is small enough to be held and cuddled, something my wife really likes."
Jake

"He also has a great sense of hunting and last Fall we went to relatives in S Dakota and hunting up quite a few birds. He is incredibly fast on his feet and retrieves quite well to hand. One time I shot a pheasant at the edge of a road it flew over the road and landed at the end of a field and then ran into a large block of trees in a shelter belt. Jake saw it hit and tok off across the road and I was wonderign how I was ever gonna et him back. Literally 10-15 minutes later he comes running out with the bird in his mouth and brings it right to me. My only complaint is my lack of enough training to keep him close enough on running wild pheasants. But in spite of some out of range flushes we always come back with birds."

"You have bred a great line of springers and many many people have benefitted from that."

Josephine

June 2007 - "We had a beautiful trip to your wonderful state of Wisconsin and a great trip home. We stopped in New York state to visit Paula's brother, he has a huge farm there, and ironically a new rottweiler puppy that absoulty loved Josephine."

"It was too bad we didn't take some pictures of your kennel, but we were so exictied about meeting our new puppy, it completely slipped my mind. The cleanliness and attention to detail were everything I expected. You run a great shop."
Josephine

"I have attached a couple of photos of Josie. She has adapted so quickly and well, it is even surprising to me, as I know the breed. But to Paula, it is miraculous. She is already a great pet."

"Today, she sat on our deck and watched a Robin walk across the lawn. Her focus on the bird said it all. This will be a great bird dog."

"Again, nice job."

July 2007 - "Josie is doing great and growing like a weed. She loves to retrieve and is completely leash trained. She is a joy to work with..."

November 2007 - "Thought I would let you know, Josie had a great flush and the bird went down right over her head. She retrieved it and then proceeded to spit out hackle feathers. It was a picture perfect training lesson and she passed with flying colors. No gun shyness and great instincts. She is very athletic and to see her scale a five foot stone wall in the field with little or no effort is truly remarkable."

"I will send a photo soon. Josie is getting more and more ticked or speckled and she looks beautiful. Ironically, she has a splash on her backside that is much more black that liver. Is that possible to have black and liver on one dog? It really does not matter to me at all, except it seems an anomaly. She has won all our hearts and her typical spaniel merriness is a wonderful addition to our home."

"Hope all is well in Wisconsin."

May 2008 - "It's been a while since I have communicated and for that I apologize. I do, however, often check your web site to see what's new and happening."

"Josie is a beautiful young lady. She just went through her first heat and, well, there are always issues about that. But we came through it just fine."

"I have attached a photo from last year that I thought you would enjoy. I do not have any recent photos that show her beauty, graced, and power, but I will make sure some are to follow. She is beautifully speckled, lightly, and has a great face. She also is now completely liver, though her hind quarters are darker. She has really turned into something special."
Josephine

"You know, I use to have Golden Retrievers before Spaniels and a good snifty nosed retriever will find any down bird. But I would put Josie up against any retriever anytime. She has a great retrieve and a wonderfully soft mouth. And she doesn't give up at all. If the bird is down, she will find it. I cannot emphasize how important that characteristic is. It speaks volumes about the dog. Any dog can flush to some degree, but only a few quality ones will make sure the downed bird gets back to the gunner."

"The only training issue I had was the whoa command. I did need to go to an electronic collar to stop her when she got on a scent and wouldn't listen to the whistle. But she learned that lesson so fast, I could only look at her and shake my head. $200.00 for a collar and she learned the whoa command in 20 seconds. I would like to get a consulting fee for that kind of fast work."

"I run with Josie a lot. She heals without a leash, sits when we come to a stop, and waits for the next move. She's making me look really clever."

"I really believe I was most fortunate to contact you when I did. I cannot speak for the other folks that got puppies from Gypsy and Amos, but if Josie is typical of the other pups, then you might want to pay attention to that line. She is only a year old, but often times, I think I'm talking to a seasoned mature dog. She must know I writing about her. She just came over and put her head on my foot. She is practically a finished dog and we are looking forward to next season with great anticipation."

"Hope all is well in Wisconsin, I know you folks had a hard winter."

Josie

February 2008 - "Hi Loretta I just thought that I would send you an email to update you on Josie. She is such a good puppy, everyone always says they can't believe that she is only 8 months old, she is so smart. She has been such a joy to have in our home. Since we last saw you we have now moved into the house that I bought, which Josie loves because she has her own room, that her crate is in, with a patio door. When I don't know where she is, that is the first place I check. She is usually sitting and looking outside."
Josie

"She is a social little butterfly we go for our daily walk and she loves everyone she meets. Her best friend is of course my parents yellow lab Mooch. She is defiantly the dominate dog in that situation, even though she is a quarter of his size. They love to play together though. My parents live by Robert Akey and he has two Springers, one is from you, she met them the other week and had fun playing with them."
Josie and Mooch

"Her favorite thing to do is carry her tennis ball around. She has that in her mouth almost all of the time. It is the first thing she looks for in the morning and the last thing she finds before bed."

"We have been working on training her for hunting, but mostly she is training us I think. We need a little more practice in that, but plan on actively taking it up in the spring. There is a bird farm/training facility near us that we are going to check out in the spring time."

"We hope that you are enjoying the new year. Thanks for our little girl!"
