Postcards From the Kids
Katie

Katie

May 2004 - "I just wanted to give you an update on Kaite. She is a smart little girl and enjoys exploring the brush on our lot. Actually, its been quite a kick to see her plunge into the cover without hesitation. She has been following Buster about and has learned to use her nose to explore the world out back. She is very quick, quicker than any pup I've had, and I look forward to hunting over her."
Katie

"House breaking has been going well without a single accident yet. She has learned the word "no", is getting acquainted with a collar and leash and knows her name. We're having a ball with her..."
Katie

August 2004 - "Katie is doing just great. She is a very nice little girl with an intense desire to please. She is trained to hup and come and retrieves beautifully to hand. I should also mention she is trained to voice, hand and has a good start on whistle. We are so tickled with her. I'm sure Annie will be sending along to you new photos soon..."
Katie

"We're so happy to have Katie, and old Buster has gotten fond of her too."

April 2006 - "Here is a photo sequence of Kate on a hunt during her first hunting season. Her first bird was a grouse and she was steady and retrieved perfectly, pretty good I thought for not having seen a grouse before. During the pheasant season, I shot 22 roosters over her and she got a lot of experience. She works within range, handles well, lights-up when she gets birdy, is steady and retrieves beautifully. She got quite a few positive comments from other hunters who watched her work. We really owe Jason Givens for his work with us. We began experimenting with trialling, but ran short of time with work commitments and with the effort we have invested in a cabin we're building up on the Chip. We considerd asking Jason to run her in trials, but we just couldn't stand not having Kate around."
Katie

"She is extremely gentle, quiet and behaves perfectly around the house, and she is our little shadow. She weighs 38 pounds when in hunting shape, and as you can see, she is a nice looking little Springer. We thought you might like an update on Kate and so we send it along with our best regards. We hope all is well with you..."
Katie

February 2008 - "Kate is doing really well. Over her her first three hunting seasons we have shot 85 birds over her. We worked with Jason Givens a bit this fall firming-up her steadiness, and she is hunting just incredibly well. Additionally, she is an awesome little girl, sweet, gentle, sociable and she has perfect manners."
Katie

"I take Kate most everywhere I go, haircut, to the car dealer for oil changes and Kate loves to say hello and have a pet from everyone. We always say, everybody loves Katie."

Lena

September 2003 - "Last night after work I laid down on the bed to read. I let Lena come with me. She had a ball with her. She lay at the edge of the bed, looked at me, and gently pushed the ball off the bed with her nose. I jumped up and got it for her. Again, she looked at me and pushed the ball off the bed with her nose. Then she barked. Then I jumped up and got the ball for her. Then it occurred to me - She was teaching me how to retrieve!"

February 2004 - "...She's now up to 35 pounds and she's a powerhouse. We take her for with us on a long snowshoe hike every night. She plunges through the deepest snow and heaviest cover and is ready for more after we are too tired. She's flushed lots of birds on our walks, and we are eagerly awaiting next year's season."

September 2004 - "I just wanted to let you know that Lena's first hunting season is off to a great start. She's been to a pheasant farm twice and out after grouse and woodcock several other times. She's flushed lots of all three. The second time at the game farm we put out eight pheasants and she flushed thirteen! We bought an e-collar but quickly discontinued using it because she doesn't need it. We've really been having a great time."
Lena

October 2004 - "I had her back at the pheasant farm last Saturday. I had three hens put out and she put up 4 and a woodcock. We then went a "scratch hunted" in a field someone had vacated and we she put up four roosters! I winged one of them and she chased it about sixty yards through some alders and caught it in a swamp (She likes to find them but doesn't like to bring them to me, although she's great at retreiving a dummy and wing - I'm hoping the retreiving will come with time). Unfortunately she sprained her elbow at the end of the day so the vet has her on very light duty for 10 days - she's feeling better already and can't understand why we're having her take it easy (she'd want to run if she only had two legs!)"
Lena

"She's a great companion and hunter and we are really glad to have her. Thanks again."

October 2005 - "Here are a few pictures of Lena. Yesterday we got a limit of woodcock and she retrieved two out of the three (the third landed right near me.) Despite having a very amateur trainer (me) she's turned out to be an excellent hunter."

April 2005 - "I thought I'd send you some photos of Luke. The photos with Luke and his toys were taken during the Christmas season while the others, in the field, were shot last month. He sure is a showy pup but a bit hardheaded. However, he is the most athletic pup I've ever owned, bar none."
